The current phase of the ETF project was completed in July 2013.
However, work on the ETF related activities continues notably in promotion of awareness and adoption of the deliverables of the project in the concerned communities and industries.
Additionally, DAISY and EDitEUR have requested WIPO to consider extending the project upon its completion in July 2013. With respect to this, they jointly submitted a detailed proposal requesting for consideration of such extension to WIPO in June 2013. The extension proposal is currently being reviewed by WIPO management.
Furthermore, a decision was made at the seventh SP meeting in November 2012 to continue ETF activities beyond its current project phase. Accordingly, the ETF Steering Group was renamed as Inclusive Publishing Working Group (IPWG) with representatives from the publishing industries and visually impaired community. As the continuation of the ETF Steering Group, the mandate of the IPWG is to set direction and govern the future work of ETF related activities. Examples of such continuation work and activities could include, inter alia:
a. Further development of the accessible digital publication standards and guidelines, and advocate their use and adoption in the publishing sector and the visually impaired community;
b. Advancement of the conversion tool set, its supporting peripherals and operating environments;
c. Continue outreaching to various stakeholders involved in the chain of ”inclusive publishing” and to secure their commitment to the process;
d. Identify “gaps” in the “inclusive publishing” ecosystem and make recommendation on how to fill or lower the “gaps”; and
e. Engage in effective dialogue and ensure publishers with a good understanding of benefits of Trusted Intermediary Global Accessible Resources (TIGAR) Project to the publishers and people with print impairment.
